Why Build a Custom Home?
Of course, being a builder of custom homes, we are a bit biased. We've looked long and hard to find the beauty in a tract home, and are compelled to report that we haven't been successful. A one-of-a-kind, custom designed home is, in our opinion, the only way to go. However, in the spirit of fairness and equality, we've tried to provide a fair and balanced comparison of your two options. You'll notice that we have not included what is commonly referred to as a "semi-custom" home. A "semi-custom" home is a recent marketing trend used to appeal to the more custom-oriented buyer. A standard tract home is given a few options for you to choose from, and hence the name "semi-custom."
The Advantages Of Building A Custom Home
- The pride of ownership felt knowing you live in a unique, one-of-a-kind home with an interesting floor plan and customized details. Every inch of the home is suited to your particular needs and tastes; there is no compromising on what is important to you.
- Generally, the land on which your home is built is in an area with other unique homes, thus avoiding the monotony of boxy, tract neighborhoods.
- Quality of construction and quality of materials is infinitely more substantial than the alternative. Custom home builders will use only the most qualified and skilled craftsmen available.
- Most custom home builders are privately owned, and in many instances you will have direct access to the company's owner, who it can be assured is only interested in providing a great experience for his/her clients.
- Ability to add features not available from production builders. Full home automation? Heated driveways? Swimming pools? Mother-in-law apartments? Mountain home with alternative energy? The list is endless. Custom builders are able to build into your home exactly the features you desire.
Advantages To Buying A Production Home
- Lower Cost. Production builders are able to sell for lower price points due to several factors. One, the plan you buy has been built hundreds, if not thousands of times. Secondly, the big-box builders, because of their volume, are able to negotiate substantial discounts from their suppliers and vendors. Lastly, large national builders are able to buy up prime land in bulk, again with a substantial discount.
- One stop shopping. Land, home, and financing can all be provided for you in one place. Note that many of today's custom builders, the Augusta Group included, are now offering this convenience as well.
